The inspiration for this picture came when I was walking around town one Saturday, and happening to glance upwards, and suddenly noticed the buildings above the shopfronts. I liked the narrow, Georgian buildings with their crumbling bricks and peeling plaster that towered above the facades Virgin Megastores and Woolworths, and this picture was duly born!
The title comes from the name of a pub I had to prepare an asbestos report for at work...
I think you did a nice job of handling the ambient light - especially on the rough bricks. Not an easy thing to do!
I also think the small additions to the background are well done. That one light in the distance provides nice scale, as well as the fog/haze provides a real sense of distance.
very nice! love the tones the just dark rich colors, excellent job! great work in creating this, nice history and just a piece waiting to be born, interesting story love the piece thanks for sharing
Yeah, I think it's an issue with DA's image system; I've seen it happen on other narrow images before (I think there must be a minimum size for the low-res version - because this image is narrower than that, it gets expanded).
Greens and purples are a wonderful colour scheme to work with! When colouring, I usually paint two complementary colours, and adjust them with the hue/saturation tool until I find a scheme that works, then paint atop that.
